What is Financial Anxiety?

Did you grow up watching your parents worry about paying bills? Or was it considered “rude” to discuss this topic in your home so that by the time you were on your own, you were overwhelmed with responsibility?

Maybe you grew up financially insecure so now you overspend so you never have to feel that close to the edge again. Or maybe, you now save every penny to where your anxiety keeps you up at night, yet you still don’t feel like you have “enough”.

Perhaps you fight with your partner about differing plans for your future or you struggle to set boundaries when giving money to friends or adult children. Maybe you lost your job after COVID or your home after a natural disaster, or you struggle to organize your financial wellbeing as someone with ADHD in a neurotypical world.

If you relate to these statements, you might have financial anxiety.

What are some signs of financial anxiety?
